October 10 & 11, 2021
Junkyard Social Club
2525 Frontier Ave Unit A, Boulder, CO 80301 (map)
As part of Boulder's Indigenous Peoples weekend, Control Group Productions and Junkyard Social Club are excited to present two powerful speaking engagements by word warrior Cinnamon Kills First.
Sessions are free to attend. RSVP recommended (available starting October 1). See below for health protocols.
Note: The sessions are open to all guests, but they are targeted toward specific audiences – Native and White, respectively.
Sunday, October 10, 4pm: Honoring the Indigenous Self (Target: Native audience)
Cinnamon Kills First will use medicine wheel teachings to bring focus to how Natives today can honor their whole self, being considerate of mind, body, heart, and spirit. When one aspect of self is neglected, the entire circle can fall out of balance.
Monday, October 11, 4pm: Unci Makha and the Stories She Carries (Target: White audience)
Cinnamon Kills First will share an Indigenous creation story in comparison to a white creation story. Audience members will be able to draw their own conclusions about which way of being works in tandem with Grandmother Earth and which works to destroy her.
Cinnamon (Spear) Kills First is a word warrior from the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana. With a Rez education from home and two Ivy League degrees, she is a cross-cultural communicator who helps bridge the gap between Indian Country and the rest of the world. Cinnamon is committed to facing hard truths in order to bring about change.
She received both her BA and MALS from Dartmouth College and her MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop where she studied fiction. She currently lives in Chinook ancestral territory (Portland, OR) where she owns and operates Northside Advocacy LLC to support her work as an artist, writer, filmmaker, speaker, educator, and advocate.
Health & Safety
Sessions are planned for an indoor space, but may be held outdoors, weather permitting. Masks are required for all guests. We ask that you do not attend if you are not fully vaccinated. Due to the dynamic health situation, we will continue to adjust our health and safety protocols responsive to developments.
