Welcome to the
Breathing Healing Bus.
1. Before boarding the bus…
Please Reflect on these Questions:
How did you first come to live on this land? Why?
How has life here shaped you - and how has the land contributed to that?
How has the land changed during your time here?
What was lost or taken for your story to unfold?
Begin your Sound Journey.
Choose one of the Audio Stories:
Sand Creek Massacre by Cinnamon Kills First - best for non natives, middle school age+ (explicit depictions of violence)
Summit Springs Massacre by Bill Tall Bull - best for native folks
Meeker Massacre by Oreland Joe - best for anyone of any age & ancestry
Listen to the story as you move through the bus.
2. Enter the bus at the front.
Notice and Follow the Braid.
Each strand represents our ancestors of the past,
us here in the present, and our descendants in the future.
Take your time.
Soak in each image, fact, and feature before you.
Be present. Breathe.
Feel what happens in your body and your breath.
3. Enter the tipi at the back of the bus.
Find a Comfortable Seat and take a Few Slow Breaths.
Choose the Audio Meditation that fits your Identity & Ancestry:
X) I am Indigenous to Turtle Island.
Y) I am a descendent of white settlers on Turtle Island.
Z) I am an uninvited guest on Turtle Island (non-Native, non-white).
4. Exit the bus at the back.
Follow the braid to fire and water.
Light the medicine most appropriate for you and/or take a drink of water.
Soak the healing in and/or send your breath with the smoke for a better future.
Reflect on this question:
What action has this experience inspired you to take in service of healing and restoration?
Write your commitment to action on a piece of tipi canvas and tie it on the line.
Please return the headphones and this card to bus staff before departing.
Thank you.
